That there poor possum done got hisself runned over. Dang shame to just leave him lyin’ there. We need ta give that critter a proper burial. In batter, chicken-fried and served with taters ‘n gravy.
Welcome to the Roadkill Cafe, flattest grub this side of the I-540.
Roadkill Cafe puts you in the role of Slim LaChance, the owner of a little shack off the side of a dirt road in a little out-of-the-way spot on the outskirts of the middle of nowhere, and you aim to make a name for yourself and your fine, vulcanized cuisine. However, for such an obscure spot, there sure is a lot of traffic, and that’s…

On the whole, branded freebies have a tendency to be pretty simple affairs that are designed to meet the absolute minimum criteria for a game so they can get you to download an advertisement phrased in the form of something that could be considered a game if only it lasted more than two minutes and gave you more than two or three levels of play.
Sometimes the games are actually pretty good, but their brevity reminds you that the company that commissioned it didn’t want to pay any more than the absolute minimum to paint a thin veneer of entertainment over their ad. Sometimes though, you get a rather…

Flash gaming vets Johnny Two Shoes have taken the leap to the small screen with their release of High Speed Chase 2. Where’s the first one? It’s here. It exists as a Spy Hunter-inspired Flash game, whose basic premise is to drive your distinctly Viper-esque sports car down the road wreaking havoc and mayhem as you race toward and ultimately try and take out designated targets without trashing your car too badly in the process. It’s fun, but it’s very brief and fairly basic, though well executed.
In bringing it to the iPhone however, they’ve beefed it up with a massive injection of wanton destruction,…

As I mentioned on Flog!, posts were going to be a little threadbare this weekend. Originally that was going to be due to me working on a couple of new tracks for the next update to Galactic Chill, but it turned out that I ended up doing some work for Cowboy Rodeo, setting up a blog and some forums which are not quite ready for prime time as of writing this.
What is ready for prime time however is their highly anticipated next installment in the Pinball Dreaming series, Pinball Fantasies, and Frapstr’s got the exclusive first look at this classic and much loved pinballer. The thing about this…

In case you haven’t noticed, I tend to review rather lesser known games and apps — stuff that isn’t so much in the mainstream and frankly doesn’t really need the publicity because 90% of its audience will know it’s out and will have already bought it the second it hits the App Store anyway. Did you need me to tell you that Doom Resurrection came out? No, of course you didn’t, because the entire Applesphere has been talking, E-Mailing and tweeting about it since about half a second after it went live.
Did you need me to tell you about Taxiball? Odds are, a lot of you just…

Make no mistake, I loves me some Tapper.
It was one of my favourite arcade games from back in the day. I even got to play the original Budweiser-branded version of it in an arcade that managed to get one in. (Arcades weren’t supposed to be allowed such games, only bars, because it was construed as marketing alcohol to minors, since minors were largely who patronized arcades in those days, so Bally marketed an alternate root beer-themed version) I’d later get it on cartridge for the Atari 2600, where it was further rebranded with Mountain Dew.
It’s only natural then that I’d be interested in seeing it come out for the iPhone —…

Here’s a game that answers that age old question, “What would happen if you mashed up Gauntlet with Temple of Apshai, added a dash of physics, and then presented it all in a pen-on-sketch-paper motif?” What, like you’ve never asked that before?
Anyway, that’s pretty much what we’ve got here. Sketch Dungeon shoves you into the dungeon depths in a top-down exploration shooter on a quest to … um … well, I guess you’re really just there to kick some medieval hindquarters for fun and profit. Who needs a plot when you’ve got hoardes of enemies and an automatic crossbow? The Apshai/Gauntlet hybrid aspect comes from the fact that,…

Hey, remember what I said about Marcus Radich’s Moon Rover, which was his attempt at creating a Moon Patrol clone that kind of missed the mark? Yeah, about that: I’m an idiot. You see, Marcus contacted me around the middle of last month to let me know about Moon Rover 2.0 — even passed over a promo code — and I promised I’d have a look. And then somehow that entire exchanged leaked through one of the swiss-cheese holes in my ageing brain and out my ear without me noticing. Now that I posted my review for Buggy Blaster (below) which cheekily pounced on the first version of…

Hey, remember last February when I talked about Marcus Radich’s Moon Rover, which was his attempt at creating a Moon Patrol clone that kind of missed the mark? It seems Joel Rosenzweig has been working on his own, and now that it’s out, he’d like to say something to Marcus:

You remember Joel, don’t you? He released the Space Invaders clone NVaders on the App Store last summer until Taito slapped his nose with a cease & desist order, forcing him to change the game up a little bit and rename it Alien Attack. Now he’s back in action and with a clone of Moon Patrol — and I’d like…

Rounding out the latest Skyworks releases, we come to something still yet more different — something that isn’t a puzzle or a sport.
Crime Spree is a top-down arcade driving game with a simple premise: Drive around the city collecting bags of money while avoiding the cops. In and of itself this is pretty simple to start off with, and as the levels progress, so do the number of money bags — and so do the number of cops trying to chase you down. Fortunately, you have at your disposal some real Bond technology. For each level you get a certain amount of oil, and dropping a slick will cause a…

As should be obvious to regular readers, I have a big ol’ soft spot for retro games. This generally includes modern games that have strong similarities to older games I recall from the good ol’ days, and Maze Craze Trucker falls into that category.
The object of Maze Craze Trucker is to traverse the city in your rig, picking up packages and delivering them to their destinations for cash, all while avoiding or using your air horn to scare off competing truckers bent on doing the same thing. To that end it combines certain elements of classic games like Bank Heist, Rally X, and New York…

It’s the fifth and final day of Skyworks Week here, and we’re going to head into the weekend today with one that’s been out for a while, but which also ranks as one of my favourite Skyworks games: Arcade Hoops Basketball.
As with skeeball, I love to play me some hoops when I’m going to some big adult playground like Dave & Busters, or the arcades at Canada’s Wonderland — mostly because I’m not half bad at it. If I could direct the balls using my finger and the power of telekenesis, it would proably end up being a lot like Arcade Hoops, only without the tickets to redeem for…
