Armado Lite App Name: Armado Lite
Version: 1.0
Developer: Tricky Software Inc.
Category: Platform Games

When Armado the armadillo learns that his village could be in danger from a swarm of killer ants, he strikes out to the mountain to seek wisdom from their queen, a great, wise eagle, only to discover that she has been kidnapped.  Now, Armado must become the unwilling hero on his quest to find the queen and save the world from the evil ant army.

Armado takes the form of a 3D third person platformer where you must guide young armadillo through the mountains, over obstacles, and hopping on ants and other enemies to kill them.  The game is played on rails — which is to say that that Armado follows a set path, and the only control you have over his movement is forward, backward, and jumping.  Movement is analog, with the accelerometer controlling both the direction and speed of Armado’s mad dash.  Screen taps control jumping, and you can double-tap for an extra-high jump.

Despite the relatively simplistic gameplay, the game is actually a lot of fun to play.  The production values here are very high — as you’d expect from the team that brought you Spore Origins.  The graphics, visual effects, and sound here are all first rate — even the voice acting during the cutscenes doesn’t suck, though it’s all read as a narrative to a children’s story.  The 3D engine is fast and relatively detailed without dropping frames, and even the textures are of relatively high quality.  I’d liked to have seen more animated cutscenes instead of what amount to images from the aforementioned children’s book, but that’s a style choice that I can’t penalize them for.

This lite version features the first 3 levels for you to get your feet wet in, so if you want more — and if you’re any kind of 3D platformer fan, you will — the full version is a straight up bargain at $2.99.  Definitely worth a 5 star treatment here.
