App Name: Word of the Day Lite
Developer: Ethan Productions
Category: Educational
Ethan Productions is nothing if not prolific, and the primary reason for that is Ethan appears to be aiming for the quick turnaround buck with ridiculously simplistic apps (many of which share a common code base) with extremely targeted utility. I actually wonder if he makes good money that way. Dollar apps sell exponentially better than more expensive ones, but with such specific purposes I wonder how many downloads each one gets.
Anyway, as far as Word of the Day Lite goes, it’s hard to imagine how an app that gives you one word per day can be made “lite” when the only thing it can hold back for a full version is … the word of the day. As it turns out though there’s nothing missing here, it’s just that this version is ad-supported (with fullscreen ads you must physically skip rather than AdMob banners), while the $1 full version gets rid of the ads.
The app does exactly what it says on the tin: Gives you a word and its definition on a daily basis, as in its App Store screenshot, which defines the word “Cleave.” (Which, by the by, is one of the few words that is it is own antonym.) Today’s word is Quiddity: “1. The Essence of someone or something. 2. A trifling point.” I guess that means “Maverick” is John McCain’s quiddity, and “mouth full of honey-baked Alaskan feet” is Sara Palin’s. I’ll let you choose which version of the definition is fitting here.
