Another TextTwist type game turns up on the App Store, and am happy to report that this is the best of the freebies yet. Although graphically the game is determinedly monochromatic — which isn’t a complaint, just an observation — the game plays most like the original TextTwist, with fast, responsive controls, decent (though sparse) sound effects, and curiously, built-in background music that’s not bad, if a little generic. The dictionary of words seems to be fairly comprehensive — I hadn’t run afoul of any it didn’t recognize, so that’s a good thing.
There’s one really minor gripe — because I’ve gotta be objective here — and that’s that when you put a letter back into the pile, it returns to the first available space rather than the space you picked it from, which is a tad disorienting, and perhaps not the best strategy for a time-limited game.
Oh, and then there’s the matter of constantly crashing and then being unable to reload it. That’s just of a big negative. That might be my iPhone though; it’s really due for a restore, what with the hundreds of games I’ve loaded and unloaded and in some cases kept.
Otherwise, if you like TextTwist, this is as close as you can get to the real thing without actually being the real thing. This free version is ad-supported, so if ads make you chafe, a full version is available for $1.99.
Speaking which, am I the only one who sees that developer name and thinks of the item below?
