Tilt Meter Lite App Name: Tilt Meter Lite
Developer:IntegraSoft
Category: Utilities

I know what you’re thinking.  “I could really go for a burger right now.”  But also, “Another level?  You can’t be serious.”  Matter of fact, I am serious, and the fact that I haven’t already ripped IntegraSoft three new ones before the first sentence hit a period should tell you that this is no ordinary level.

Tilt Meter is in fact two levels in one, and as soft levels go, it is remarkably good.  I think I can even comfortably declare that this is hands down the best level in the App Store.  Used perpendicular to the ground, Tilt Meter functions just as its name describes, as a tilt meter that measures degrees of angle along any axis.  Set it flat though and it becomes a two axis bubble level (or a radar scope, maybe, if you pretend hard enough that you’re searching for Red October).

Furthermore, Tilt Meter can be calibrated along all 5 axes (each edge, plus flat — and yes, that really is the plural of “axis;” the E is long) for unparalleled accuracy.  Speaking of accuracy, the accelerometer values are damped to a degree where almost all of the characteristic twitchiness is gone while maintaining a useful degree of granularity of measurement.  You can’t measure in fractions of a degree — and frankly I’m not even sure the iPhone/Touch is capable of getting that granular without the accelerometer values going spastic despite damping — but if that doesn’t matter to you and you have need of something like this, you won’t get any better.

This Lite version is missing some features of the full version, but is it not ad supported.  Instead, unfortunately, it will pop up a nag box every 60 seconds (as indicated by a countdown timer in the lower left) during use with an option to go buy the full version in the iTunes Store or cancel (dismiss and return to measuring).  If I’m not mistaken, I believe this is the first use of a recurring nag box in an iPhone app demo.  I hope the idea doesn’t catch on.

Still, if you really want the nagging to stop, Tilt Meter Pro will give you change from a buck, which will also score you the ability to change backgrounds, toggle swipe animations and calibration options, and of course, put an end to the constant harping.  Frankly, that’s a pretty good deal any way you slice it.
